Conclusion of 10th Plenary Assembly of FABC

WCBCV -- “FABC recommitting itself  to its work and mission for the Church in Asia” is the topic for the last meeting day in Xuan Loc, Vietnam on December 15,2012. The last day began with Morning Prayer, followed with two plenary sessions. The assembly received a brief presentation from the Congregation for Evangelization of Peoples and a report from the Central Secretariat of FABC. Members of the Final Message Committee also presented to the assembly the document of Final Message for discussion and approval, to be addressed the next day.

After lunch, all members paid farewell to Xuan Loc, where more than 140 members of the assembly were received warmly and impressively during 5 days of meetings, discussions, sharing, praying, and being grounded in Christ’s love as his one family in Asia.
Traveling back to Ho Chi Minh City, all members of the 10th Plenary Assembly grouped into 15 delegations to visit and celebrate the Eucharist at Saint Joseph Seminary and the 14 representing parishes of 14 deaneries in the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City. [See list of delegations] The delegations were affectionately welcomed at the Seminary and the parishes; they shared and testified the vigor of the local Church in this continuous growing city—once was crowned the pearl of Asia.
On the next day, the third Sunday of Advent, FABC celebrated its 40thanniversary with thanksgiving and conclusion of the 10th Plenary Assembly in Vietnam. The Eucharist was celebrated in the Cathedral at 9:30 a.m. The procession of concelebrants, from the Rectory to the main entrance of the Cathedral, delighted many tourists and bystanders on the streets surrounding the Cathedral’s circle.
His Eminence Oswald Gracias, President of FABC, celebrated this Eucharist with many concelebrating Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, priests. It was the first time ever the Cathedral gathered in the center of this city these many nationalities throughout Asia. The spirit of this Gaudete Sunday showered the family of the Church in Asia in this very place for the ceremonial celebration. The special presence of Papal Envoy Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales, Archbishops Savio Hon Tai-Fai, General Secretary of the Congregation for Evangelization of Peoples, and Leopold Girelli, Non-resident Representative of the Holy See to Vietnam enkindled the spirit of universal Church and the spiritual bond of the local Church with the Holy Father.
A farewell luncheon reception hosted by Cardinal John the Baptist Phạm Minh Mẫn, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City, was held at his residence after the Eucharist.
The 10th Plenary Assembly of FABC on its 40th anniversary closed a week of fruitful gathering in reviewing the past and renewal the zeal for new evangelization in responding to the challenges of Asia. This historic event also breathed a fresh breath into the life of the Church in Vietnam, deepening her faith amidst the growth of social trends and secularism as well as strengthening her hope in solidarity with the Church’s universality.
